Care Guide
Immediately After Delivery
Unroll the rug in the room where it will be used. Allow it to acclimate to room temperature and humidity for 24–48 hours before heavy use.
Smaller Rugs (Up to ~8×10)
- Flatten easily within 1–3 days.
- Use a rug pad to prevent sliding.
- Minor ripples typically resolve naturally.
Larger Rugs (9×12, 10×14, 12×15 & Oversized)
- Lay flat immediately in final placement area.
- Use a high-quality rug pad to improve airflow and reduce stress on backing.
- Allow 1–3 weeks for full settling if folded during shipping.
- Avoid dragging into place—lift and position.
Why Rug Pads Matter
- Reduce friction and backing stress
- Improve air circulation
- Prevent floor staining
- Increase comfort
- Extend rug lifespan
General Vacuuming Guidelines (All Sizes)
- Vacuum 1–2 times per week.
- During initial shedding (first 6–8 weeks), vacuum 2–3 times weekly.
- Always use low suction.
- Turn off beater bar/brush roll.
Smaller Rugs
- Easier to over-vacuum aggressively—avoid high suction.
- Vacuum in direction of pile to maintain uniform look.
Larger Rugs
- Divide rug into sections when vacuuming.
- High-traffic zones may require more frequent light vacuuming.
- Avoid pulling vacuum backward aggressively across pile.
Hand-Tufted vs Hand-Knotted
- Hand-tufted: Avoid aggressive brush rolls to protect latex backing.
- Hand-knotted: Gentle suction preserves knot integrity and pile height.
Immediate Response Is Critical
Blot spills immediately using a clean white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub—rubbing pushes liquid deeper and disturbs fibers.
Basic Spot Cleaning Method
- Blot excess liquid.
- Mix mild wool-safe detergent with lukewarm water.
- Dampen (not soak) cloth.
- Gently blot from outer edge toward center.
- Blot dry with clean towel.
- Air dry completely.
What to Avoid
- Bleach
- Harsh alkaline cleaners
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Steam saturation
- Scrubbing brushes
Smaller Rugs
- Easier to move for spot treatment.
- Ensure underside is dry before placing back on floor.
Larger Rugs
- Avoid soaking large areas.
- Use minimal moisture.
- Dry thoroughly to prevent backing stress.
Pet Accidents
- Blot immediately.
- Use wool-safe enzymatic cleaner (test first).
- Avoid oversaturation.
For Smaller Rugs
- Roll tightly pile inward for 24 hours.
- Reverse roll for another 24 hours if needed.
- Place flat weight temporarily on corners.
For Larger Rugs (10 ft+ Width)
Because oversized rugs carry more structural tension:
- Roll pile side inward for 24 hours.
- Reverse roll for 24 hours.
- For stubborn creases:
Place damp towel over wrinkle.
Apply steam iron over towel (never direct heat). - Place flat heavy objects over affected area.
- Allow up to 2–3 weeks for full relaxation.
Important
- Never iron directly on wool.
- Never soak crease areas.
- Do not aggressively bend fold lines.
Rotation
Rotate every 3–6 months to:
- Even out traffic wear
- Prevent uneven fading
- Balance pile compression
Furniture Protection
- Use felt pads under heavy legs.
- Avoid dragging furniture across rug.
- For large rugs, lift furniture carefully when repositioning.
Traffic Management
- Vacuum high-use areas more often.
- Rearrange layout periodically in living rooms.
Sunlight & Fading
Wool is naturally resilient but prolonged direct UV exposure can gradually soften colors.
- Use curtains or UV window treatments in very sunny rooms.
- Rotate rug to balance exposure.
Professional Cleaning
Recommended every 12–18 months depending on traffic.
Choose cleaners experienced with wool rugs. Avoid steam-cleaning saturation or automated carpet shampoo machines.
Smaller Rugs
- Easier to send for professional wash.
- Ensure full drying before reuse.
Larger Rugs
- In-home professional cleaning preferred.
- Avoid excessive moisture that can affect backing (especially tufted rugs).
Storage Instructions
If storing:
- Clean thoroughly before storage.
- Roll (never fold).
- Wrap in breathable cotton fabric.
- Store in cool, dry area.
- Avoid plastic wrapping long-term (traps moisture).
Humidity & Climate
- Ideal indoor humidity: 40–60%.
- Excess dryness may increase static.
- Excess humidity may affect backing stability.
